Knockout Roses are one of the easiest plants to grow and provide color to your landscape. Their bloom cycle is approximately every 5-6 weeks. You can almost plant them and forget them. They are known as the self-cleaning rose, so there is no need to deadhead them. They will grow with little to no maintenance.
These roses are very disease resistant which makes them more favorable. If you have an area that is full of sun and hot these are ideal because they are extremely heat tolerant. If no pruning is done, the knockout rose can reach 3-4 feet wide and tall. If they are more out of shape than you like, a quick trim will bring them right back into shape.
They will need some winter protection. In areas with hard winters (typically Michigan) they can be pruned down to 3 inches above the ground to remove the dieback of the canes. A good early spring pruning is recommended to assist getting the top performance out of these shrub rose bushes.
