How AI designs can do more harm than good.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can create beautiful landscape concepts in seconds; however, it doesn't understand the conditions of a real landscape.  AI design tools can be a useful way to explore ideas for your yard, but there are important drawbacks. AI images are visual concepts, not landscape construction plans.  What looks good on the AI concept may be difficult, expensive, or unattainable to build as shown.

AI may not understand your property.  Every yard is different.  Soil conditions, drainage, sunlight, existing landscape, and local climate affects what will actually work.  An AI generated design may look beautiful, but may not work for your yard.  Often the AI design shows all plants in bloom at the same time. This creates disappointment when the home owner does not see the yard as the design depicts.

Plant recommendations may not be accurate.  They may not thrive in your location.  Choosing the wrong plants could be wasted money, extra maintenance, and poor results.

AI designs can lack personalization.  AI uses common landscaping styles, trends, and patterns.  It can create a visually appealing design without truly understanding your style, outdoor space, or design of your home.

A professional landscape designer brings real world knowledge that AI cannot mirror.  They can evaluate your property in person, creating a personalized design that matches your wants and style.  A professional can also identify potential problems and recommend plants and materials that will work with your yard.  They will create a design that is attractive and attainable.

AI can be a useful starting point to get an idea for a landscape project.  It should not be the only tool used to plan your outdoor space.  Consider using AI to explore ideas and then consult with a professional landscaper in your area to create your dream outdoor oasis.
