Customers want to know when we will begin landscape installation. The answer is we don't know yet.
When the weather is below freezing during the winter and the ground is frozen the county road commissions puts frost laws into effect. The frost laws limit how much weight trucks can carry on certain roads during the late winter and early spring.
The reason for these laws is because as frozen ground thaws, the road base becomes soft and unstable. Heavy loads cause road damage and potholes.
Frost laws begin late February to early March depending on weather and thaw conditions. This year the frost laws went into effect on February 18, 2026.
Frost laws are usually lifted late March through April, but sometimes they last into early May. Road officials remove them when the soil is dry and roadbeds regain strength.
Roads that are effected are seasonal roads. Typically, these are local or subdivision roads. Also included are roads subject to reduced road limits. Frost laws apply to commercial trucks and heavy equipment. (Landscaping trucks, dump trucks, material haulers.)
We keep a close eye on the weather and call Oakland County Road commission daily for updates. If you would like to call the hotline please call 248-858-4765.
